a. Environmental Studies

Environmental Impact Assessment

  • All new developments or expansion in the old projects of sectors such as industries, thermal power projects, mining schemes etc., needs environmental Impact assessment study under the Environmental (Protection Act, 1986).
  • On basis of Terms of reference issued by the Expert Appraisal Committee an EIA study is conducted and Public Consultation is done.
  • A Final EIA report is prepared & presented to the EAC/SEAC. Based on the recommendations of EAC/SEAC the MoEF/SEIAA grants Environmental Clearance.
  • It has now been made mandatory for 29 categories of developmental activities involving investments of Rs.50crores and above

Environmental Management Plan (EMP)

  • Preparation of environmental management plan is required for formulation, implementation and monitoring of environmental protection measures during and after commissioning of projects. It indicates the details of various measures that are proposed to be taken including cost components. Cost of measures for environmental safeguards should be treated as an integral component of the project cost and environmental aspects should be taken into account at various stages of the project:
    Conceptualization: preliminary environmental assessment
    Planning: detailed studies of environmental impacts and design of safeguards
    Execution: implementation of environmental safety measures
    Operation: monitoring of effectiveness of built-in safeguards

Environmental Audit

  • Environmental audit is a general term that can reflect various types of evaluations intended to identify environmental compliance and management system implementation gaps, along with related corrective actions.
  • Industries decide to undertake environmental audits in order to obtain an independent external assessment whether the management has created efficient environmental policy and provided for acceptable environmental attitude. The most important results of the environmental audits are recommendations how a company can reduce the damaging impacts on the environment in an efficient and cost-benefit manner, and how it can in a long-term save funds by using environment friendly technology.

Social Impact Assessment

  • Social impact assessment (SIA) is a methodology to review the social effects of infrastructure projects and other development interventions.
  • Any developmental project will have a bearing on the living conditions and on the economic base of population in particular and the region as a whole. Similarly, the proposed activities will have its share of socio-economic influence in the study area. The study delineates the overall appraisal of society relevant attributes. The data is done through primary household survey and through the analysis of secondary data.

CRZ management studies

  • To control, minimize and protect environmental damage to sensitive coastal stretches from unplanned human interference, The Government of India, in 1991 issued a major notification “Coastal Regulation Zone rules”. It is an integrated approach to coastal zone problems and for sustainable development. The structured programme, undertakes the formation of trained manpower capable of redressing identified problems and helping to build capable institutions.

Modeling studies-air, water and noise

  • Air : Air dispersion modelling is often required for:
  • Environmental Impact Assessments, Development Applications, Compliance Assessments, Licences and Approvals, Investigation of Complaints (e.g. odour, dust),Improving Air Quality Management
  • Designing Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Networks, Determining Source Parameters (e.g. ideal stack heights, operating conditions)
  • Depending on the scale of impact of the project, an appropriate model is selected. Models include:
  • Steady state: AERMOD, ISC
  • Non-steady state: CALPUFF
  • Water : Groundwater modeling and 3D analysis is critical to the understanding of hydrogeologic and contaminant systems. Multi-dimensional nature of hydrogeologic and chemical distributions greatly enhance the understanding of results by utilizing advanced groundwater modeling techniques with three-dimensional graphics.
  • Noise: The location and acoustic sound power levels of potentially critical noise sources and its propagation can be assessment using mathematical models, which enable digitising a ground map (containing ground contours).

b. Approvals and Authorization

Environmental Clearance

  • The Environmental Clearance Certificate is mandatory requirement for the project activities included in the Schedule of EIA notification dated 14th September 2006 { under Environment (Protection ) Act 1986} , before initiating any project related activities on the site . The procedure for obtaining Environmental Clearance Certificate involves following major steps:
  • Submission of an application in a prescribed format
  • Category A Projects : To MoEF
  • Category B Projects: To Deptt. of Env. & Forest of State Govt.
  • Approval of Terms of Reference
  • Study report by concerned Authority
  • Preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report as per approved TOR
  • Public Hearing
  • Submission of Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report along with minutes of Public Hearing to concerned authority for final appraisal and issuance of ECC.
  • The anticipated duration for getting ECC is ranging between 6 months to 12 months.

CRZ Clearance

  • HistoryThe area between High Tide Line (HTL) and Low Tide Line ( LTL ) and area up to 500 metres towards landward side from HTL have been notified as Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ ) through CRZ notification dated Jan 1991 under E(P) Act 1986.
  • Before starting the establishment of any activities in the CRZ needs permission from concerned authority. I.e. either from the Department of Forest and Environment of concerned state or from Ministry of Environment and Forest of Central Govt. of India depending upon the investment.

Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate

  • As per the Water Act 1974 and Air Act 1981, it is mandatory to obtain Consent to Establish (NOC) from respective State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) before commencement of the construction activities on the site. The process involves
  • Submission of an application form in a prescribed format to the respective SPCB along with required documents and scrutiny fees.
  • Physical inspection of the site and assessment of the environmental management system proposed so as to meet with the mandatory requirement prescribed by SPCB.
  • Similarly as per the Water Act 1974 and Air Act 1981, it is mandatory to obtain Consent to Operate (CTO) from respective State pollution Control Board prior to commencement of the production activities. The process involves:
  • Submission of an application form in a prescribed format to the respective SPCB along with required documents and scrutiny fees.
  • Physical inspection of the site to verify the compliance and implementation of the conditions of the CTE (NOC) issued by the SPCB.

Waste Handling Authorization – Hazardous, Bio Medical Waste, E-Waste

  • In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 6, 8 and 25 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986), different rules for hazardous, biomedical and E-waste were included which may relate to their method of generation /handling /treatment/disposal. These rules are applicable to all persons who generate, collect, receive, store, transport, treat, dispose or handle these waste in any form.
  • Hazardous waste: Under Hazardous Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules, 1989
  • Biomedical waste: Bio-medical waste (management and handling) rules 1998.
  • E-Waste: E-Waste (management and handling) rules 2011.

Statutory Periodical Submissions and Records

    As per Water Cess Act 1977, the details on quantities of water consumption for various uses needs to be submitted either on monthly basis or annually at the end of each financial year in prescribed format.
    The annual returns for disposal of various categories of hazardous solid waste during the previous financial year needs to be submitted before the end of June of succeeding financial year through Form IV
  • FORM V
    As per the EPA 1986, submission of the Environmental Statement (i.e. Form V) for previous financial year needs to be submitted before the end of September of succeeding financially years. It is applicable for all the units which are being granted consent under Water Act 1974, Air Act 1981 & Hazardous Waste Management Rules 2008.
    Records for generation and disposal of hazardous waste in Form III.
    It is mandatory to maintain records on generation and disposal of hazardous waste in the premises as per the required format.

2) Engineering Services

Designing of ETP and CETPs

  • Based on the treatability study carried out as mentioned above / data and information related flow rate of effluent characteristics, a treatment scheme is evolved. The schematic diagram as well as G.A. drawing (considering the space availability) is prepared and detailed design of each of the unit is worked out as per the criteria. The ETPs and CETPs are designed in a way to achieve the required characteristics of treated effluent so as to comply with the prescribed norms by SPCB.

Designing of STP

  • Considering the need of the hour to reuse / recycle the treated domestic effluent (sewage) in turn to conserve the fresh water resource, Sewage treatment plant is being designed.
  • We also offer customized services in the form of Packaged Sewage Treatment Plant in modules of various capacities to cater the client requirement.

Operation and Maintenance

  • The STP/ETP once Constructed need to have operation and maintenance through qualified and experiences personnel, To facilitate the efficient operation of ETP, the qualified operator and Supervisor are being provided by RESPL who maintains all the records of the operation and attends the day to day trouble shooting.

Rain Water Harvesting

  • Rainwater harvesting is the accumulating and storing, of rainwater for reuse, before it reaches the aquifer. We as contenders of the “Green Environment” suggest our clients for the rain-water utilization to reuse the rain-water collected during the rainy season. Eventually, we help them right from the legal aspects to the design and commissioning of the same.

Ambient Air Monitoring

  • We offer an integrated ambient air, emission monitoring & VOC sampling service where the monitoring and analysis are all done in-house, thereby providing cost-effectiveness to clients. Noise Monitoring

  • We have internal expertise to carry out online and continuous noise monitoring in Ambient, Work Zone, Indoor and DG Sets.
    Long and short-term noise monitoring campaigns are often required for minimising and managing noise emissions emanated from infrastructure and construction based activities and for demonstrating compliance with imposed noise limits mentioned under Noise Pollution (regulation and control) Rules 2000.
